Error Message:
Unable to open device type device.

Possible Solutions:
  • The audio or MIDI device specified in the Options window may be currently in use by another application.  Close all other applications and try again.
  • If you are running in real time mode with the split stereo feature enabled, perhaps your sound card does not support recording stereophonic audio.  Either select a different sound card or disable split stereo. (Ensemble Edition only)
  • If you recently removed or added an audio or MIDI device to your system, enter the Options window and specify your devices again.
  • At least one audio and MIDI device must be listed in the Options window.  If not, you will not be able to use real time mode on your computer.
  • Perhaps your sound card does not support recording audio data at 44100 Hz with 16-bit resolution.  If not, select another audio device in the Options window.  If no audio device on your system supports these audio recording settings, you will not be able to use real time mode on your computer.
  • Perhaps your computer has run out of memory. See instructions for the "Out of memory" error.
